Nobody at Rolex named this one. Collectors did, the moment they saw yellow gold sitting next to black and champagne and thought of exactly one other thing.

The 126518LN takes the current Daytona case — 40mm, 18k yellow gold, Cerachrom bezel in black ceramic — and pairs it with a dial combination that reads louder than almost anything else in the catalogue. The base is a warm champagne, but the three chronograph subdials are glossy black, set in sharp relief against it. It’s the kind of contrast that photographs well and reads even better in person, which is part of why the nickname stuck rather than fading the way most do.

Underneath the color story is the current-generation Daytona architecture. The calibre 4131 runs the column-wheel chronograph with a vertical clutch, giving cleaner pusher action than the older 4130 it replaced, and holds 72 hours of power reserve. The black Cerachrom bezel is scratch-resistant ceramic with the tachymeter scale moulded rather than printed, so it won’t fade the way older aluminium inserts did.

The bracelet is the other reason this reference feels different from a traditional gold Daytona. Instead of a solid gold Oyster bracelet, it comes on Oysterflex — a flexible metal blade sheathed in high-performance black elastomer. It cuts the weight dramatically compared to a full gold bracelet, sits closer to the wrist, and wears more like a rubber strap than a precious-metal watch, without giving up any of the gold case’s presence.

It’s not a Daytona for someone who wants to blend in. It’s for someone who already knows that and ordered it anyway.
