This Patek Philippe Nautilus 5980 1A is available to pickup from our boutique in Sydney CBD or to be shipped worldwide.

This 5980 Grey Dial in Stainless steel is a rare find, having been in production for only a few years and discontinued nearly a decade ago. In near-new, barely tried on condition, it's a true gem for a discerning collector.

As it stands the 5980 1A Grey is a super rare Nautilus in the entire Nautilus line up. Here's some information about the watch so you can make an informed decision before you purchase your next Nautilus.

Rarity & Production Background

The 5980/1A was launched in 2006 as Patek Philippe’s first in‑house automatic chronograph housed in their iconic Nautilus case, powered by the CH 28‑520 C movement.

The original dials were in black/blue; a grey‑dial variant was introduced around 2010 to expand the range.

Patek Philippe does not publicly disclose production quantities by dial color or reference, making hard figures unavailable. However, grey‑dial examples are considered relatively rare compared to the standard black/blue variants.

The grey‑dial 5980/1A‑014 is far less common than the other dial variants, with likely under a few dozen listings—some grey dials can even be part of rare Tiffany‑Co. special editions from 2014, which are especially collectible and command premium prices

Collectibility & Desirability

The 5980 series is discontinued, which fixes supply and contributes to its collectible status.

The grey dial variant—introduced mid‑series—is seen as more unique and thus more collectible, especially with full documentation and box/papers. Tiffany‑dial versions (rare subset of grey) further enhance value.

The grey‑dial 5980/1A‑014 is decidedly more rare and collectible than the standard black or blue variants.

It sits well within the top tier of Nautilus desirability, but grey dial pieces remain niche and command significant price premiums in the secondary market.

So here’s your opportunity to own one of the hardest to come by Nautilus time pieces.

This example is in Like New condition without a single swirl as seen in the video in this listing. It was barely worn by the previous owner and doesn’t show any sign of polish in its life. Our watchmaker has inspected the watch in very detail to verify it’s condition.
